The Safe Room, established in 2013, is a café with liquid nitrogen dessert, coffee and pastry located in Penang, managed by Syed Aidid. The building where they are located was a goldsmith shop for decades before it was transformed into its current condition, as a hip trendy cafe. In the middle of the unit was the huge safe where the gold used to be kept. Aidid said they debated whether to demolish the safe but ended up keeping it as a focal point and unique talking point, hence the name of the outlet was coined.
Another key identity of The Safe Room is its creative use of liquid nitrogen in the creation and presentation of its desserts and signature items. We saw the dramatic “smoke” effects in the Blue Oasis mocktail, Dragon’s Breath Popcorn and the Baked Oysters.
Although famed for their desserts especially their ice cream, we were so impressed with their food. The quality of the food was wonderful and the portions were generous.
Among the items we tried were the Smoked Salmon Wasabi Salad, Osaka Miso Lamb, Grilled Baramundi, Soft Shell Crab Burger, signature Grilled Chicken, Grilled Salmon and Seafood Pasta.
The show stopper were the Baked Oysters which were brought out in a cloud of liquid nitrogen magic and tasted divine as well!
Enjoy excellent meal with fruit based refreshing ice creams flavoured with Passion Fruit, Dragon Fruit, Coconut and Jackfruit.
You can head over to No. 42, Campbell Street to try the food and desserts for yourself.
